Urns are made of clay and glaze color that you specify, see the second photo for color choices. Only the upper portion that is glazed will be the glaze color that you select, the lower portion will remain the unglazed clay. All sizes and proportions are approximate and will vary slightly as they are all handmade.The text on the piece is hand impressed with individual letter stamps (not engraved by computer), so the stamping and spacing and justification/ centering of the text will all have a hand impressed, and imperfect quality to it, as seen in the photos of all of urn samples.

The option for colored text is for glaze infilled into the impressed text. There is no charge for this option and you can select your choice of colors for the text glaze. On the lighter colored clay, a darker glaze in the text might leave some residue around the text from the text glaze application process.

-About Furoshiki-
Furoshiki (風呂敷, fu-rosh-ki) is a type of traditional Japanese wrapping cloth. It can be used in multiple ways, for bundling or gift-wrapping all sorts of things – from lunch boxes or books, to watermelons and bottles of wine. You could even tie it into a handbag or use it as a scarf, a baby blanket or even a wall hanging. One simple and beautiful piece of cloth and the list is endless. Tie it and see!

-Designers words-
For my design, I took inspiration from the idea of wrapping a wide range of objects and the different folding techniques and shapes each one would create. I also wanted it to act like a visual shopping list, the pictures reminding you of things you need to buy, then wrap in the furoshiki and carry home.

-Printing process-
Each of our products has been hand printed in Japan, using traditional printing techniques. We are working with a great printing company called Chiffonez in Tokyo, who specialize in the printing of furoshiki. To make sure we get the best results possible, we keep a close dialogue with the printers, retaining a good balance between our ideas and their invaluable knowledge.

This design is based on the Japanese tradition of origami.
Continuing with the theme of folding and wrapping, this design depicting a folded piece of paper, explores three dimensionality through line and pattern. At first glance, a quarter of folded furoshiki appears to be decorated with nothing more than bold stripes, but viewed as a whole, it transforms into an intricate and three-dimensional trompe l'oeil.

A black print gives a cool, monochrome look to this design.

Urns are made of clay and glaze color that you specify, see the second photo for color choices. Only the upper portion that is glazed will be the glaze color that you select, the lower portion will remain the unglazed clay. All sizes and proportions are approximate and will vary slightly as they are all handmade.The text on the piece is hand impressed with individual letter stamps (not engraved by computer), so the stamping and spacing and justification/ centering of the text will all have a hand impressed, and imperfect quality to it, as seen in the photos of all of urn samples.

This listing includes the cost for a stamp to be infilled in gold. I cannot do the text or forever loved in the gold, but I have added an option for colored text, please select this option if you would also like a glaze color to be infilled into the text. This works best when the glaze and clay are contrasting colors. There is no charge for this option and you can select your choice of colors for the text glaze. On the lighter colored porcelain clay, a darker glaze in the text might leave some residue around the text from the text glaze application process.

3" height x 3" diameter- size extra small should fit a pre- cremation weight of up to 5 pounds (up to 50 characters)
3.5" h x 3.5" d - size small should fit a pre-cremation weight of up to 20 pounds (up to 75 characters)
5" h x 4" d - size medium should fit a pre-cremation weight of up to 40 pounds (shown in photo) (up to 100 characters)
6.5" h x 4.25" d - size medium-large should fit a pre-cremation weight of up to 60 pounds (up to 150 characters)
8" H x 4.5" D - size large should fit a pre-cremation weight of up to 90 pounds (up to 200 characters)

If you are close to the maximum volume of the urn I would recommend ordering a larger size urn if you want to ensure that the ashes fit. Ash volume can vary and might not calculate to the approximate 1 cubic inch of volume equals 1 pound of pre-cremation weight. For Hydro Cremation, there will be 20% more volume of ashes and please multiply 1.2 to the pre-cremation weight to select the urn size. I would always suggest ordering one size up if have any concerns about the urn size.

-About Furoshiki-

This design was inspired by the famous cherry blossom mountain view in Japan at sunrise. The elements are subtle, which creates a delicate and abstract pattern when the furoshiki is wrapped, folded, and worn.

Each of our products has been hand printed in Japan, using traditional printing techniques. We are working with a great printing company called Chiffonez in Tokyo, who specialize in the printing of furoshiki. To make sure we get the best results possible, we keep a close dialogue with the printers, retaining a good balance between our ideas and their invaluable knowledge.

This listing is for when you request a something special for one of the custom items in my etsy shop, and it has a cost associated with it. If you have an idea of something special you would like for one of my listings, and I say that it will be an extra cost, this is a way for you to add that special request to your item.

For example, if you request a special stamp ( a commercially available rubber stamp that I don't currently have) for a custom urn, and I say that it will be $15 extra, you can use this listing to add this stamp request for $15 to your cart when you check out, in addition to the item that you are purchasing.

These special customizations can include-

*additional text beyond what is noted in my custom urn or vase listings, or to turn a non quote urn into a quote urn - $25 (if you want to swap a word or two, for the dates shown on the urn listing you do not need to purchase this, you can just request that to be done at no charge)

*requesting a ceramic lid to an item in place of a corked lid on a listing - $25 (please check the ceramic lid section of the shop as I have many urns with ceramic lids already shown as listings)

*adding a large cork to a custom vase listing. - $25

*requesting a stamp that I don't currently have that I will need to purchase for you (not a custom made stamp, but a generic comercially made rubber stamp from another shop). I will keep the stamp after I use it on your piece, you will not receive the actual stamp. there is a store near me that has many rubber stamps, so please feel free to request something very specific if you'd like as maybe i can find it!- $15 large rubber stamps / $10 small rubber stamp. If you request a stamp that I have shown in my stamp palette in the listings there is no charge to request it on an urn.

*requesting a custom made laser cut stamp that I will need to special order for you. these are about 2" x 2" maximum size, and I will send you the custom stamp with your order after I use it. These are laser cut rigid stamps made especially for clay made with a pdf file that you send me- $100

*hand drawn ( carved into clay) very simple decorations ( I don't recommend this! A stamp is much nicer than my sketches but I list it because people always ask) - $20

*gold or white gold metallic accents ( not a large amount, just a small accent painted on with a small brush, best when used to infill a stamped impression) - $25

*special request glaze color for a glaze I have never used yet - $25 but might be more, this one is very tricky and it probably won't be exactly what you were hoping for due to the difficult nature of glaze chemistry

*request I use a stamp or paw print that you have and that you send to me ( like an actual paw print clay stamp or paw impression you had made. You will have to send the stamp to me, please remember there will be about 13% shrinkage of the urn during the firing process) - $15

*add a decal from image you send me (will currently be sepia in color) - $30

*request off white stoneware clay, a discontinued clay color - currently off white stoneware clay is discontinued but can be requested, although it will need more time ( a week or two weeks extra) as I might need to order clay. - $1

*request a slightly different size or shape. (such as a small-medium size, or a taller or wider shape) - $15 ( there is no charge if the shape does not get larger or it is something that is simple for me to do)

*request the item to be sent as a gift with a card. I will wrap the item in nice tissue paper with a ribbon, and add a card to the item with a handwritten note. Generally the cards are very simple cards, but please convo me if you have a special request. I dont send receipts with any of my items, but this is a nice way to make sure the recipient knows who sent the gift and makes it extra special to receive -$15

if you have ideas for special customizations, please send me a convo first. Some of the customizations can be done at no additional charge and can just be added as a note when you order, and some of them will need to be purchased using this this listing. There will be limits to these customizations such as the amount of text that you can add or the kinds of stamps and glaze colors that you can request.

some of these customizations will add additional time for me to make your item. Some of these customizations will require me to order an item from another shop, or do some testing specific to your customization. I have made the lead time 1-2 weeks for this item, but we can discuss specifically how much time this customization will add.
